Take One Picture
During the last two weeks we have been studying a picture by Janet Bell – a picture set at the seaside. At the start of the project we became detectives and collected different clues for sections of the picture before thinking about what the picture may look like. Some of us recognised a variety of seaside features including: cliffs, rocks, sand, boats and a lighthouse. As well as this, in our writing, we had the opportunity to learn and retell the story of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. The stories were fantastic and clearly described the key events – particularly the mustard sandwiches and the naughty seagulls. Everyone really enjoyed this project and we have already learnt so much.
We had the opportunity to design and create our own lighthouses during our Art / DT lessons to support our learning. We used recycled bottles and different coloured strips of card to make our lighthouses look realistic. In addition to this, Maple class also learnt about electricity and we had the chance to make our own circuits (with wires, a bulb and battery). We attached these onto our lighthouses so that they would light up! They looked amazing.
