Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters
As part of our Tale One Tale Project, we have been investigating the narrative story of Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, a tale set in a small village in Africa, which focuses on the characters Mufaro (the father), Manyara (the rude and spiteful daughter), Nyasha (the considerate and loving daughter) and Nyoka (the share-shifting Prince).
Over the course of the week we have been studying the characters in turn - focusing upon our AF2 and AF3 targets which have allowed us to practise inference and deduction skills. As well as this, we started to become authors of our own setting descriptions - for this we needed our AF5 skills to focus our attention to word choices and improving our word choices / phrases to influence how the reader felt.
Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters Cross Curricular Learning
In Term 4, Sycamore class did a 'Take One Tale' project on the story of Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters. We did many activities such as maps of Zimbabwe and flags (where the story is set in Africa). We investigated the characters and wrote our own version of this tale.
