On Thursday 25th February, Upper School and Lower School, had a special assembly to learn about internet safety. School council had made internet safety posters (about how to keep safe of the internet, e.g. parental control) to share we us. We learnt lots of strategies to help us keep safe online.

Phoenix Comic Trip
On Tuesday 1st March, Sycamore Class went to see Phoenix Editor, Tom Fickling, at the Regal Centre in Wallingford. Tom Fickling showed us the different stages of creating a comic and taught us how to come up with cool ideas. For example, you take two things: a burger and a car, then you put them together to create a new exciting character. We all had a lovely time and were able to practise our illustrations and comic book making!
On Monday 7th March, winners of Fir Tree Junior School were announced. The competition was opened to make the new library look beautiful and colourful. We were asked to design our favourite book character - and the winners designs would be put on to canvases.

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March
Today we celebrated World Book Day and had the opportunity to dress up as our favourite character for the day. In Sycamore, we spent time exploring the different characters and sharing why we had chosen them as a class. Then we got a chance to share our books, during our Buddy Reading session, with Cedar. For lunch we had a themed school dinner which was very yummy! Here are some pictures of our different costumes:
World Book Day
On World Book Day (Thursday 3rd March 2016) we all dressed up as characters from different books and had lots of fun sharing our range of books. It was superb that everyone came in as different characters. Today was the best day ever because it only comes around once a year and we got to step into the shoes of our favourite characters!

On Friday 4th March, we had a school disco. Upper School went at 6.30pm to 7.30pm. First we went into the hall and boogied around. Half way through the evening, we were allowed some food (hot dogs and chocolate cake for pudding). After that some of the children in Sycamore asked for specific songs to be played so we could dance some more.

On Thursday 10th March 2016, it was the Spring Concert, where St Nicholas came to share all their learning (for example, their recorder playing). We also had a performance from the woodwind group, the orchestra and the choir. A small vocal group also did a performance and had the chance to sing together. The violins were the first act and the woodwind group played the Star Wars theme tune. For the finale, St Nicholas and Fir Tree choirs sang together.

New Library Opening
On Tuesday 15th March, Fir Tree celebrated the opening of our new library by Ali (from the Wallingford Bookshop). The School Councillors helped with the opening event and gave Ali a guided tour of the new building. Sycamore were very excited to see the new library and can't wait to use it!
Sycamore’s Sport Relief Challenge
On Thursday 17th March 2016, Sycamore class, who are in year five, travelled sixteen laps of the field to raise money for those less fortunate. We had a long list of different methods to travel the distance (175km) as a class to help the school travel from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Some of the ways we travelled were: biking, running, skipping, walking and dribbling a football without losing control – many succeeded with this task. We all really enjoyed it and everyone has a Sports Relief card showing that they achieve their goal.
Exploring the Easter Story
Sycamore class were invited to 'Explore the Easter Story' at the Wallingford Baptist Church. We all got to learn more about the Christian festival of Easter and participate in a range of activities to extend our knowledge. Here are some photos from our morning:
