Take One Tune

Night Ferry - Anna Clyne

Night Ferry - Anna Clyne 1

As part of our Take One Tune project, we have listened to the Night Ferry by Anna Clyne. The first thing we did was research the composer. We learnt that she:

  • Was born in London in 1980.
  • She then went to Edinburgh college of Art to study.
  • Also, she went to Manhattan school of music.
  • She is famous for composing pieces of music like the violin, blue moth and the ballroom.
  • Anna Clyne was nominated for a Grammy award.
  • She composed her first piece of music at 11 years old.
  • She now lives in New York.

We also learnt that before Anna composed the Night Ferry, she drew a picture of a wave to help her think of the music. We used a wave as a stimulus for our poetry. We began planning our poems by using the 5 senses to describe what it would be like out at sea at night during a storm. We also used figurative language to make our poems more exciting. After this, we wrote our poems. Here are some examples:

We also watched some performances of poets performing poetry and generated some S2S for us to follow. We performed our poems to the class, who then gave us a star and next step.
