Welcome to Early Years at Fir Tree Primary School!
We are delighted that you have chosen Fir Tree Primary School for your child and extend a very warm welcome to you. Starting school is an important milestone for both children and families. To help ensure a smooth, positive transition into Reception, we have planned a series of transition events, outlined below.
If you would like a one‑to‑one conversation about your child’s individual needs prior to these events, please contact the office to arrange a meeting with our Early Years Lead, Mrs Helena Grant. You can email the office: office.2578@fir-tree.oxon.sch.uk
Transition event dates:
Thursday 18th June, 5:30pm - Welcome Meeting
Tuesday 30th June, 3:30pm - 4:30pm - Informal stay and play socialiser
Wednesday 8th July, 10:00am - 11:30am or 1:00pm - 2:30pm - Independent stay and play session (the time of your child's session has been emailed to you. Please let us know if you would like a reminder)
At Fir Tree Primary School, we are proud to offer a warm, welcoming and nurturing Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) environment where every child is encouraged to thrive. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy and valued and we work hard to create exciting opportunities that inspire curiosity, confidence and a love of learning from the very start of their school journey.
From September 2026, our EYFS will include Oak Class - Reception. Our wonderful learners will be supported by their teacher, Mrs Grant and our experienced Teaching Assistants, Miss Mills and Miss Walton.
Our dedicated team supports children to build strong foundations for lifelong learning through play, exploration and meaningful experiences.
For more information about Reception, including some FAQs and answers, please take a look at our Welcome Meeting PowerPoint.
Our EYFS curriculum is designed to help children become confident, curious, independent learners who are well prepared for their transition into Year 1 and beyond.
